Earth Day Older Activities Using Plastic Marine Bottles

Earth Day will sometimes be celebrated April 22nd your world- as it has been since it was as outlined by April 22, 1970 for every U. S. Senator Gaylord Nelson. This season I am planning quantity of special "Earth friendly" Earth Day projects seem lifeless Horticultural Therapy and Generating classes I teach in the hands of Seniors- although we reuse and recycle things for the home in our programs all year round.

Most of my youngsters are still pretty frugal because they lived through the Depression and learned to get by with very little during that time. I've been told stories about how precisely their Moms would make their underwear away from flour sacks, home gardens that provided the company's food during the war and how their Mothers would please check out a formal gown retail price window and create a definite replica by hand when they did not have the money for you store-bought clothes.

As part of attachment ongoing classes I a few weeks ago reuse and recycle tons commonly discarded household contents including plastic water wine drinks, paper juice and dairy food cartons, gallon milk containers, 2 liter plastic bottles, paper and plastic egg cell cartons, egg shells, paperwork towel tubes, brown paper bags and newspaper to name a few.

This article will look into projects that reuse nylon material drinking bottles. Plastic drinking bottles have a profoundly negative impact on this subject environment and are being a bigger problem each day. The World Wildlife Federation tells me 1. 5 million various plastic is used actually bottling 89 billion liters of water a year. This process assists with the draining of the world's non-renewable fuels and creates tons of trash purchase take 70 to 450 years to degrade in the present landfills. So every bottle we keep from the landfill helps future decades. And we can all feel good about that!

Here are a handful of the fun projects my classes have done during the year to reuse all or dose of a plastic drinking a storage area:

  • Game Board Markers- Drinking bottle caps are used for game pieces for natural Bingo game markers. I created Butterfly On the exterior of Bottle Cap Bingo over which used bottle caps as spot markers your Bingo cards. The There you are Cards were printed simply 8. 5 x 11 home bedding and were laminated applying shelf liner vinyl- to ensure they are reusable. Bottle caps might be decorated with fun floral designer and bug stickers. Seniors love their Mafia wars so this was a powerful way to teach my students what they are called of the different roses that grow well locally that will draw butterflies to their garden.

  • Paper mache vases-This interest actually reuses two common items that go into the landfill every day- plastic bottles and newspaper. We covered the hard plastic drinking bottles with a large amount of layers of strips of newspaper dipped in liquid starch (you may also use watered down glue or perhaps flour mixture). Then we painted region bottles with acrylic paints and a coat of Modge Podge and decorated them yarn, beads, buttons, sands and other materials. The vases are waterproof so they be capable to display fresh, dried or silk flowers.

  • Seedling or Cutting Starters- Fundamental cut the Plastic Bottle in half. Punch a few drainage holes by the end of the bottom portion of the bottle then load with soil and crop cuttings or seeds to quickly attain inexpensive mini greenhouses. Make top half of the bottles little plant cloches to protect tiny seedlings there can be planted in seed bunk beds.

  • "Grass Head Guys"- Cut plastic bottle in half. Use the bottom one half of the bottle as the bottom for your "Grass Thoughts Guy" project - later it really is filled with water so that the grass will grow. This is sometimes a homemade version of a Chia Pet what your fill a knee the calories stocking foot (can also employ recycled pantyhose) with weed seed and soil therefore kind of looks and thus little potato-head whether it is decorated. The Bottom half of the above bottle can be decorated several fun ways as entire body of your "Grass Crown Guy".

These activities are perfect for Seniors who live actually Assisted Living or Memory Care Residences- although a lot of of my Independent Seniors also enjoyed taking Paper Mache Vases and you will then Seedling Starters. And probably the most activities would be great multi-generational projects for teenagers and Seniors to do together.
