Boomers Accept Assisted Living Communities? Not always

It seems that in recent times there's another Assisted Living site being built on almost any empty lot in whole village. What does this wish to the future? For instant future, it's great. We Boomers who've no time, no purpose, no call to grasp our elder parents into a lot of our homes have someplace place in Mom and/or Dad as they need a little more assistance. But in the rear of our minds, aren't we really thinking, "Gee, Mom and Dad can likewise love it here. It offers all the amenities may ask for. But there's certainly no way in h& %# I'm ever visiting live here! "

Now tell the truth. Isn't that exactly what you're thinking right now? Boomers absolutely do not accept the concept of Assisted Living, and from research, it would appear that an communal living is making its way recommended to their forefront. Be it residence, townhouse, duplex, or even a single family home on an adults-only community, isn't with its where we're headed?

Way back when (in the 50s though 60s), communes were where most hippies headed. This category housing didn't die, it really grew up to be co-housing - a global type of participatory community that work well attracting Boomers as these kinds of enter their 60s. Cohousing elements are individually owned (like condos). But residents of eco-friendly communities share criminal court resources and facilities, all of which helps them be energy efficient.

In 2003, there were 60 such communities surrounding the U. S. By 08, there were at smallest amount 100, with 300 even on a in development (Columbia News Service, 5/11/08). These properties the particular Songia Co-housing Community's 11 acre site outside Seattle inside two-block Eco-Village apartments in Nyc (source: Iconoculture, 8/12/08).

What's ahead?

Assisted Living communities, beware! The brand new senior housing model - out of your home to Assisted Living to Nursing Home - won't cut it for many Boomers. They've stood a sneak peek while leading their parents, and want no part of it. Co-housing lets them rewrite your immediate future by coming full circle which consists of youthful ideals. And, will be the what all Boomers shoot for - forever young?

Boomers tend to be as eco-friendly as Gen Y as well as the Millennials. No longer extra, building green is just becoming necessary, and sustainable housing relates to the new wave.

But that is not the only reason Boomers are rejecting the existing Assisted Living model. We are much more complex too independent to ever agree to a regimen of bingo back up in Monday, dry meatloaf the entire Wednesday night, and sing-alongs contrary to Sunday afternoon. We never were several one mind and I doubt once we ever will be. There are ourselves as individuals, not inside herd. Therefore, living in a promote of regimented routine may not be our style.

The solution

My personal opinion is that individuals who are attempting to determine "what regarding all those Boomers, " need to step away and reassess their a few questions. Boomers want options, Boomers want choices, Boomers desire to make life-style decisions based not merely the their financial health, but on their mental and physical health as well. When the time comes that we are unable to maintain our self-employed freedom, our assistance arrives in many sizes, shapes and designs. They may be co-housing, a small adult open that sets aside one home payable for by community residents and "loaned" for a caregiver couple. It could be several single elder Boomers determining to reside together in one place - all with or even private space, but with communal areas to counteract isolation.

There are many techniques of solving that driving request of, "What do we do with them? " A modicum of currently exist, but leave it toward a Boomer to devise new techniques in solving the problem of up to those methods being desirable and convenient all of them.
