Margie Veis: Hello there Kirk.
KH: How long did you get doing this?
MV: We an executive director for many years, all of them throughout Summerhill Villa.
KH: It is deemed an Assisted Living facility.
MV: Correct.
KH: Why is Assisted Living important?
MV: Assisted Living is important because accredited great alternative to living alone of the home, or living in a trained nursing facility. It's which is where other alternative.
KH: What Assisted Living?
MV: Assisted Living is known as a non medical alternative. We're licensed by the Department of Social Services and it's non medical, so we very often have people live here that are independent or those which need assistance with personal precaution safeguard: bathing, dressing, grooming, delicacies making, laundry, medication assist.
The biggest difference is we aren't a skilled nursing facility therefore we don't have doctors in the catering company, we're not required serviced nurses on staff, and we don't do nursing care. I not able to give injections, and i cannot have IVs. We are that intermediate care continually say: "I don't want to be at home, and I really don't have medical needs. All of us need some custodial care. " So an Assisted Living is often a great choice.
KH: What you say to individuals who say: "I will keep mother and father at home totally? "
MV: I hear that. Sometimes that works. My biggest real question is - Is it nice? If it is nice, there are options you're able to do to live at the house. There are some people who doesn't leave their home. You can't force them even if a safety issue but you need to get home care. It's costly but that is an option.
Some choose to enjoy a family member move in make sure there's somebody there, so it is possible to make it work but you need weigh the financial and the truth - Is my parent safe home based? That's the real case.
